Four Code4CT girls; Charney Essack, Azraa Vally, Chelsea Lewis and Tracy-Anne Sikenjana attended the UN International Data Forum and spoke in the Celebrating Women in Data session. The girls shared their experience of working with data during the 2016 Data CodeStorm in collaboration with Code4SA. The girls also spoke about some of the the projects they had worked on in the past such as Taxi Ranker and Big Sista which are applications that use data to solve specific problems.
They were inspired by the diverse female speakers from across the globe who shared how the use of data is making a difference in the lives of other young girls and women in African countries such as South Sudan and Kenya. Attending the event allowed the girls to engage with change makers from around the world and learn about different professions within the technology industry.
Chelsea Lewis: “I was inspired by all the women working towards change in Africa, and how supportive they are, it’s great to be part of this community.”
