22 Code4CT learners spent a week in various Cape Town tech companies during November and December 2016. During the week they worked in groups to create a responsive one-page website about an inspiring woman in technology of their choice. Each group was matched with a Code Coach from the host company who worked with the group to deliver their project.

This is a unique opportunity for school learners to experience a working environment and interact with professionals in tech careers. Our learners felt that the most rewarding aspect of their time was engaging with and getting advice from their assigned Code Coaches and other individuals at the company. 74% of the learners felt more confident in their ability to work in a professional environment after the immersion experience and 68% of the learners felt that the immersion experience improved their coding abilities.

“You have opened up many doors for me and I will use all these skills in my future.”
– Nonopha M, Grade 10 learner

“I really appreciated that they let us work on our own and treated us professionally.”
– Saarrah W, Grade 10 learner

Thank you to our host companies – Takealot, Amazon Web Services, Havas Boondoggle, Lima Bean and Khanyisa Real Systems – who gave of their time and resources to make this experience possible for Code4CT learners! Companies willing to host groups of learners in 2017 can complete an expression of interest.

“It was great to be able to improve on some of my own coding skills. Explaining and teaching others tends to help with my own understanding of coding. I enjoyed helping out.”
-Kevin D, Code Coach
